Local Community
Welcome to reznor::dot::com's Local Community page.
This section covers reviews and RA Technologues endorsements of various businesses in and around
the Orange County, CA area. Eventually this will grow to include eateries (from fine to fast),
music venues, and other entities as we come across something so fabulous it needs to be mentioned,
or so wretched that people need to be warned.

The OC Weekly (little brother to the LA Weekly and the Village Voice).
Not bad, all things considered. The music reviews are either good, or painful.
Rich Kane is stuck in the 70s (then again, so am I) in a bad way. Just about every review
the poor sod produces compares a decent local band to either some band from well over two
decades ago, or some band that Kane himeself were in, two decades ago. For a paper that
aims towards the young, hip, and subcultered, he seems to be a bit of a dinosaur.
One nice thing about the Weekly; they don't pander to any interest group, or social segment, or
anything. The writing is not always in sync with my personal views, which is refreshing. The
tendency of media to either try to lecture the populace, or placate, has gotten old. The OC
Weekly provides a breath of fresh air.
Overall, the Weekly is far from being weakly; they produce solid club, band, and event listings.
The research is more liberal than the "liberal" OC Register, whose liberation ends where dollars
begin. The Weekly itself is responsible for exposing various scams and coverups in other major
local publications, as well as in local government.
One bonus is that they definately don't feel the need to cater or pander to any particular group.
I'd guess about half the time I disagree with the writings contained within, but that's part of
what makes it unique and refreshing.
The OC Weekly gets 5 of 5 (5 what, I haven't decided yet. I'm not doing stars. We need a trick
little icon. Suggestions)?

Chain Reaction is a small concert venue located about dead center in the city of Anaheim.
No Galaxy theatre here, and that's a bit of a good thing, tho. For years I've much preferred small
club environments to large arena venues, and Chain Reaction certainly fits the bill. Tim, the
Proprietor, has done vast improvements to the venue in the last two years, including severe sound
and lighting upgrades.
Perfomances are typically of the non-mainstream caliber, and the crowds are usually well under
the 21 mark. Chain Reaction (which started life as Public Storage, but changed names after
urging by the storage company by the same name) has been a champion of small, local bands. Aside
from Koo's, and definately now with the recent untimely demise of 369 in Fullerton, Chain Reaction
is the only venue that is readily accessible to young bands (both young in existance, as well as
members' ages).
Visit Chain Reacion's site, and check out band schedules. Also, they mirror some reviews from
the OC Weekly as well as the OC Register.
